I made my first trip to the wonderful Detroit Art Institute last weekend when I had family in town and immediately I was struck. I did not have a chance to go to many museums growing up and this is the largest and most stunning building I have been in. It is three whole stories and I believe the space takes up an entire city block, or at least almost. I spent hours there and I didn't even get to see the entire museum.
I went back today to see their Impressionist exhibit and I cannot wait to go back and wander through it again. There were Degas, Cezanne, Van Gogh, Seurat, and even a Monet. I have always had a great love for Impressionism and to be able to see the work of all these great artists in person for the first time was a dream come true.
If anyone wants to find me on a calm weekend I'll be getting coffee from the courtyard and wandering through the exhibits at the DIA.
