My senior project show opens next week and as we head into dress in a few short days I am filled with nostalgia from my first design in November of 2017. These two shows could not be more different in experiences and the process I went through, but both will always hold a very special place in my heart.
This is why people do theatre, these little burst of 2-6 weeks of craziness that result in a weekend or three of people getting to appreciate and see your work. Every show I have ever done as an actor, tech crew, or designer has stuck with me and if you ask any of your friends who have done theatre I am sure they will tell you a similar story.
Passion and dedication are the two things needed for this love to be realized and it is the most beautiful thing if someone can fall so madly and deeply in love with theatre that it is all they want to do with the rest of their life. I knew as soon as I stepped onstage at the age of 11 that it was all I wanted to do for the rest of my life, I did not know that my plans would change slightly, but here I am. A month away from my BA in Theatre Design and I do not regret any second.
Here's to all the dreamers who are told they are reaching too high. Reach all you want, touch the stars. If you have the right passion and you are willing to do whatever it takes, you will get there. I was like you along with so many others who have made it. Dream bigger.
