Two Weeks Down

Writer: Lattes and LipstickLattes and Lipstick

I have officially been in classes at graduate school for almost two weeks now and I have already had many firsts. I completed my first mock up (and it actually looked like a dress), I sewed a zipper into a pair of pants a few days ago (even though it took literally 3 hours to do), sketched my first figures that had faces that I am actually proud of, and I had my first attempt at turning a piece of paper into a mask (it worked but the paper is too delicate for a mask).

I never done much sewing on a machine before and I have certainly done more sewing in the past two and a half weeks than I have my entire life. I'm learning new things each day and I'm picking up on skills much faster than I anticipated. Just last week I was nearly in tears at hearing I was expected to draw my own figures complete with faces as I had never learned how and it was assumed and expected that I had. I thought I was going to have to spend all of my spare time learning to draw, but I guess all my attempts at drawing people and drawing on figures has set me further forward than I anticipated.

I also made a trip to the local art supply store to pick up some supplies. I think it is going to be very unfortunate for my credit card that there is one just a 15 minute walk from campus and the store is full of anything any artist could ever want. And even better, they have an option to use a cloth bag at checkout instead of getting plastic bags. It has become so important to me in the past years to reduce my use of plastic bags in stores and it is such an easy thing to do in today's world.

Well that's it for my life update, now if you'll excuse me I'm off to play with my new charcoal pencils and try and force myself to be inspired for my first project.
